How to Order Commissioned

Original Coker Art

If you have an idea for a painting you would want describe it in a letter, phone call or E-mail. I work from a large collection of books and photos. If you have a specific photo, or a combination of photos and locations you like we can combine them to make a unique painting. The more complex a painting, the more I may have to charge. Double headed locomotives, stock cars, bridges, trestles or other complex structures will be factored into the price of your painting. For some subjects I will need resource material from you.

Though I am well known for my paintings of Narrow gauge and short line subjects I welcome inquiries about mainline subjects, including modern steam and first and latest generation diesel power. I am also starting to do non-railroad scenes of the old west.

PAYMENT

I request half of the price agreed upon when the work is commissioned. A receipt will be sent to you as quickly as possible. The other half is due upon completion of the painting. Completion time depends on my current workload but is usually within 4 weeks. If you wish, a photo will be sent of the work. A shipping charge of between $25 and $50 (for unframed work, dependent on the size) will be required with the second payment. I prefer not to arrange framing but will provide this service for an additional 15% of the price quoted. Remember, this will also add substantially to the shipping cost. Shipping and framing prices are subject to change without notice.

MATERIALS

All work is watercolor. Only acid-free cotton rag paper is employed. 300 to 400 lb. paper is used for sizes larger that 12x 16". I use top quality, fade-resistant English tube watercolor.

VALUE AND COPYRIGHTS

My paintings have retained their value well. All second sales have been for at least what the original painting sold for. Some recent sales have been up to 30% above their original sale price. That is a good track record. Coker Railroad Art retains all rights to any work produced by this studio. NO WORK CAN BE REPRODUCED WITHOUT EXPRESS WRITTEN PERMISSION. Please contact me concerning negotiation of rights.

GUARANTEE

I unconditionally guarantee any painting of the D&RGW or RGS subject matter. Returned paintings will be assessed a 10% restocking fee. Other paintings feature a limited guarantee, with a 25% restocking fee. All sales are final after 10 days of shipping. Of the three hundred paintings I have so far produced only three have been returned.
